A Cessna 172 aircraft reported missing on a training flight yesterday crashed near the Batu Dam in Ulu Yam near here and all the three persons on board were found safe but injured.

About the plane that crashed

Cessna 172 plane, that crashed deep in the jungle near Empangan Batu, Ulu Yam on Friday evening, is believed to have taken off from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base in Subang on a training flight at around 4.50pm.

The aircraft reportedly lost contact with the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) control tower at 5.15pm yesterday when it was flying over the Batu Caves area.

The 3 victims that survided the crash are members of the Royal Selangor Flying Club. They are being treated at Hospital Selayang.

The pilot, who had identified himself as Capt Saiful, and his two passengers – Syed Haidhar Syed Zulkifli, 25 and Shaiful Zafiq Razali, 24 – are currently being treated at the Selayang Hospital here. One of them is reported to be critical and the other semi-critical.

One of the victim, 25-year-old trainee pilot Syed Haidar Syed Zulkufli's uncle said his nephew was lucky to have escaped with some scratches.

"When we were informed of the accident at 8.30pm last night, we feared for the worst.
"We immediately notified all the family members and waited at the club while the search was going on," said 50-year-old Ab Aziz Hanipi.

He added that at 5am today, his family was assured that all there including Syed Haidar was rescued.

According to reports, an attempt to avoid two eagles during windy weather is believed to have been the cause of the crash

"My son told me that strong winds were blowing when they tried to avoid the eagles, causing the aircraft to lose balance," Sharifah Hatun told reporters at the hospital.

"My son said the winds were very strong and the aircraft could not do a thing, but the pilot was efficient and made a crash landing," she said.

She also stated her disappointment with the media for spreading false news that her son and the two others were killed in the incident.

Survivor Syed Haidir Syed Zulkflee will continue with his dream of becoming a commercial pilot despite the accident, his father said

Syed Zulkeflee Syed Masron, 50, said his son was determined to follow through with his training and the accident did nothing to dampen his spirit.

"He only has 14 more hours of flying before he gets his private pilot licence and he could not wait to get back to it," he said.

Syed Zulkeflee said his family was supportive of Syed Haidir's decision and they were happy that the incident did not cause any trauma for him.

"If a person is destined to die, they could die anywhere.

“There is no point in him giving up his dream over this," he said.

According to Saiful, the plane crashed as he was trying to avoid a bird

'I lowered the plane to avoid colliding with the bird as it could be fatal if it gets stuck in the fans.

"But when I was trying to get back to higher altitude, I was unable to causing us to crash," he said.

Saiful was too weak to elaborate but said that he was glad that everyone was safe.

According to Syed Zulkeflee, the son only sustained minor injuries but will have to stay in the hospital for a few days for observations.
