The Malaysian Insight will be suspending its operations next week, its Chief executive officer and editor Jahabar Sadiq has confirmed

Through a notice posted on their website, Jahabar explained that the reasons behind the decision were that the portal was missing a major milestone in starting a paywall and that page views traffic failed to reach the targeted critical mass.

Jahabar explained that there was a need to review the news portal's direction and commercial viability

"The decision to suspend publication in the interim is a difficult one, but was made due to the challenging financial environment faced by The Malaysian Insight and other media outlets," he added.

Jahabar ended the notice by thanking The Malaysian Insight’s readers, journalists and staff who have supported the portal since its inception on 31 March, last year

The publication, which was previously known as The Malaysian Insider, was shut down on 15 March 2016 by The Edge Media Group after eight years.

Jahabar was also the chief executive officer and editor of The Malaysian Insider.

The Malaysian Insider was rumoured to be making a comeback later in 2016.

Loyal readers of the news portal expressed their disappointment in the comment section of the post, offering to help the website gain more subscribers in a last ditch effort
