Three Malaysian Universities Have Made It Into The Top 300 World Ranking

Some good news for the local education system!

It looks like the local education system is making some serious advancements.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) are now among the top 300 universities in the world! as rated by the QS 2016/2017 World University Ranking.

The ranking is an annual league table of the top universities in the world and its rankings are based on four key pillars: research, teaching, employability and internationalisation.

It is done by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a company specialising in education and studying abroad.

UPM and UTM broke into the top 300 this year, ranked at 270th and 288th respectively

UPM is a research university offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses with a research focus on agricultural sciences and its related field while UTM is famed for its engineering courses.

Both UPM and UTM were positioned at 331st and 303rd in the ranking last year.

The oldest university in the country, Universiti Malaya (UM), went from its position of 146th to 133rd, within reach of breaking into the top 100

Universiti Malaya is one of three Malaysian universities to improve its research impact. It rises 30 ranks for citations per faculty. It is now close to becoming one of the world’s top 500 research institutions.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) just missed out on joining the other three after coming in at 302nd. On the other hand, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) stumbled from its previous 289th position to the 330th.

Meanwhile, Petronas-owned Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) also made its debut in the ranking, and placed in the 601-650 band.

This year, over 3,800 institutions were considered for inclusion into the list with 916 ranked. Great job and continue doing what you do best, educators!
