TikToker Rayyan Wong Arrested After Alleging King & PMX Dined At Non-Halal Restaurant
Over the weekend, the suspect posted three separate videos on TikTok to express his apology.
TikTok content creator Rayyan Wong has been arrested for making offensive comments against His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a video
According to Harian Metro, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said officers arrested Wong after the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) filed a police report against him for his TikTok content.
"The content in question contains offensive statements believed to be intended to offend, disparage, and insult the Royal Institution, incite hatred and provocation among the rakyat, which has the potential to disrupt public security and national harmony," Razarudin said.
The 22-year-old was arrested at his home in Johor yesterday, 18 December.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Wong posted a video earlier this month, claiming a Chinese restaurant that the King, Anwar, and the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, dined at was not halal-certified
Despite his allegations, media reports at the time highlighted that Kedai Makan Jadi Baru Botak in Tanjung Puteri, Johor Bahru is indeed halal-certified.
The 22-year-old has since apologised for his comments.
Over the weekend, he took to TikTok to tell his 113,000 followers that he would temporarily quit creating content after facing intense cyberbullying that led to suicidal thoughts.
"Due to a resurgence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) triggered by negative comments, I will be closing my TikTok account until the end of this month to recover from suicidal thoughts caused by cyberbullying. I sincerely apologise for my words from the bottom of my heart," he wrote in a TikTok post over the weekend.
