In a hilarious turn of events, Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua has made quite an interesting request to IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Pua has made an advance "application", asking for a number of items to be provided if he ever gets detained in the future.

In the Facebook post that was posted yesterday evening, Tony Pua said:

"If and when I get locked up in the police lock up in the future, please make sure I have a nice, clean mattress with sheets and not just a wooden bed.

"Also, while you are at it, it would also be nice to have clean towels daily with all the necessary toiletries," read the first part of the Facebook post.

He went on to say that he's not demanding as he does not need an air-conditioned room but instead would be more than happy with just an electric fan.

Adding to the requests, Pua also mentioned that the access to his mobile phone with Internet access would be much appreciated.

"I would be much obliged. Thank you so much in advance," ended the post by Pua.

Pua's "creative" comeback comes after IGP Khalid said yesterday, 23 November, that Bersih 2.0's incarcerated leader Maria Chin Abdullah is not being denied mattress.

"She has to request for it, lah. I did not get any information that she did request it," said the IGP.

On 18 November, just hours before the Bersih 5 rally was scheduled to start on Saturday, 19 November at 10am, the police raided the Bersih 2.0 headquarters in Petaling Jaya and arrested the coalition's leader.

She was kept at an undisclosed location, denied legal aid and was not allowed to see anyone for the first two days. Following which, on Sunday, 20 November, the authorities informed that she will be held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) for 28 days.

Just a day later, Bersih alleged that Maria in being kept in "inhumane" conditions which included being held in solitary confinement in a "15x8 cell with two light bulbs that are turned on for 24/7. The cell apparently had no windows, no bed and she was forced to sleep on a hard slab of wood, in the absence of a mattress.

A day later, human rights watch group, SUHAKAM confirmed that Maria is indeed being held in a cell with no mattress and that she is forced to wash up with cold water.

The confinement conditions of the electoral reform group's leader was heavily criticised by the people and international organisations which lead to the IGP's comments on the matter.

Pua's Facebook post has garnered almost 6,000 likes and more than 1,343 shares with hundreds of comments pouring in, chiding the IGP for asking Maria to request for a mattress if she wanted it

Some even warned the IGP to "not bully innocent Malaysians"
