Uni Student Raped And Robbed By Man Who Pretended To Ask Her For Directions

A young woman's trip to the pasar malam (night market) turned into a nightmare when she was allegedly raped and robbed by a man who pretended to ask for directions

According to a report by NST, the incident happened at 8.30pm on 1 November when the 22-year-old university student was walking towards a bus stop after shopping at a pasar malam in Shah Alam. 

She was approached by a driver who started asking for directions

"The victim did not suspect anything amiss, before the man suddenly brandished a knife and pointed it at her," said Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat.

The victim was pulled into his car and driven to a secluded spot where she was raped and robbed of her belongings.

"After raping the victim, the suspect took her cash of about RM100 and cellphone before ordering her to get out of the vehicle. The suspect then fled the scene," Shafien Mamat added.

The victim lodged a police report and was sent to the Shah Alam Hospital for a medical check-up.

The driver was arrested today after the police raided his apartment at the wee hours of the morning

The 27-year-old suspect, who worked as a driver for a ridesharing company, was nabbed at his apartment in Port Klang, as reported by Sinar Harian. It was revealed that he is an ex-convict.

The police seized a knife and a car believed to have been used to commit the crime. 

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, and Section 392/397 of the same code for armed robbery.
