A lorry crashed into 11 vehicles on the Johor Causeway leading to the Woodlands Checkpoint in Singapore this morning, 7 July

Videos circulated on social media shortly after the accident, showing the lorry driving into the vehicles without stopping until it reached a divider on the road.

According to a statement on Facebook, Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Raub Selamat confirmed that the accident involved 11 other vehicles comprising a van, a bus, and nine cars.

Initial investigations showed that the lorry lost control due to a brake malfunction, he said.

He added that the 34-year-old Malaysian lorry driver has been arrested and tested negative for drugs.

There was also no loss of life or injuries, he said in the statement.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said "stern action" will be taken against the lorry driver or company involved if they are found to have gone against safety regulations

In a Facebook post commenting about the video, he said, "This includes suspending the driver's Goods Driving Licence, suspending the company's permit or other penalties under the Road Transport Act 1987."

The minister also asked members of the public who were at the scene of the accident to send in their video recordings to assist in investigations.

"I look at such cases seriously and will not compromise with any parties. Anyone found guilty will have stern penalties imposed as this involves the lives and safety of road users."

The accident led to heavy traffic on the Causeway this morning, 7 July.
