[VIDEO] Onlookers Stare As Large Chunk Of Road In Serdang Collapses Into Drain
Five cars were seen being swallowed up by the collapse.
A road shoulder in Serdang, Selangor collapsed at about 6.30pm on Tuesday, 25 January, dropping and damaging several vehicles that parked in its vicinity
The incident occurred only 7m away from a row of shop lots on Jalan Lestari Perdana 1A/2, with the ground falling into a large drain.
Videos and photos of the landslide have since gone viral on social media.
No victims were involved, but five cars were damaged in the incident
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said they received a distress call about the road collapse at 6.38pm, reported New Straits Times.
"Six firefighters and officers with machinery from the Serdang fire station rushed to the scene," he said.
He added that the five vehicles were parked in front of a car workshop at the ridge where the landslide occurred.
According to Norazam, the landslide was caused by rain and a burst drain pipe
"The rain at the time of the incident caused a drain to burst and the soil beneath began to subside, causing the five cars to fall 5m to 6m," he said.
"The area was closed to the public and the incident was referred to the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) for further action."
He added that a landslide had occurred in the same area about 50m from yesterday's incident in 2017.
