An 80-year-old man in Rawang became the target of a brutal attack after he was wrongly accused of kidnapping a woman's disabled teen daughter

Over the weekend, a video of a woman stopping a car and attacking the driver went viral on social media.

It was believed that the woman was trying to save her daughter from a kidnapper. In the clip, she can be seen stopping a car before opening the door and trying to kick the driver inside.

However, police have verified that it was not an attempted kidnapping.

While her mother was buying breakfast, the teenager had stopped the man's car and it led him to believe that she was asking for a ride.

Harian Metro reported that the incident took place around 9am on Saturday, 26 June.

The woman was buying breakfast from a stall in Bandar Country Homes when she realised her daughter was missing.

According to Gombak district police chief ACP Zainal Mohamed Mohamed, investigations found that the teen wandered away without her mother's knowledge and stopped a passing car.

"The man who was driving a vehicle without other passengers had stopped and allowed the teen to enter his car. The driver is an 80-year-old man who allowed her to do so because he assumed that she was asking for help," Zainal said.

He then added that the driver drove aimlessly without a destination because the teen had not said anything.

The man's car was then stopped by the mother and members of the public at Saujana Rawang who thought he had tried to run away with the girl

"From the investigations carried out, police have verified that there are no kidnapping elements or that he was trying to wrongfully run away as what was made viral on social media," Zainal said.

The woman had also retracted a previous missing persons report she had filed after her daughter's brief disappearance.
