A video showing the impact of Typhoon Chaba on the streets of Jeju Island has gone viral on social media

Uploaded by local Chinese radio station 988, the 1-minute video shows Typhoon Chaba sweeping through the streets, houses, and buildings in Jeju Island. At the time of writing, the video has been shared over 350 times, with over 10,000 views.

Strong waves can be seen destroying anything in its path

Typhoon Chaba is one of the strongest and most powerful typhoons in history. Back in 2004, it caused severe destruction to many parts of Japan, with damages over USD959 million.

The disaster that happened on 5 October left five people dead and one person reported missing amid widespread power outages and damage to homes and buildings

Experts have upgraded Typhoon Chaba to the equivalent of a Category Five Hurricane, bringing with it heavy rains which are capable of triggering flash floods and landslides.

Typhoon Chaba is currently heading towards Japan, but experts believe it will weaken and is likely to be a tropical storm by the time it reaches the country

Major cities in Japan such as Niigata, on the east coast, and Sendai, on the west coast, are believed to be particularly vulnerable.
