Woman Critically Injured After Struck By Logs Falling Off Overturned Lorry

The 22-year-old was waiting at a traffic light when the incident happened.

A 22-year-old woman was critically injured after she was struck by timber falling off an overturned lorry at a traffic light intersection in Gua Musang, Kelantan yesterday, 9 July

In the 11.30am incident, the woman was waiting at the traffic light of the Bendahara intersection on her motorcycle when the lorry overturned on the adjacent road, reported the New Straits Times.

The falling logs knocked the victim, Siti Norelyana Kamaruzan, off her motorcycle.

The incident is believed to have been recorded by the dashcam of another vehicle that was waiting at the traffic light. The footage has since been widely circulated on social media.

District police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said the victim was rushed to Gua Musang Hospital for treatment of severe internal injuries

"The doctor said [her] condition is now not stable," the victim's fiancé, Nik Amnan Arif Nik Anuwar, 22, told reporters at the hospital yesterday, as quoted by The Star.

"I found out about the incident after being informed by a friend at the scene and went straight to the hospital to see her," he added.

Nik Amnan Arif said Siti Norelyana was on the way to work when the incident happened.

The police said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving

Gua Musang district police chief Sik urged anyone with information about the incident to contact investigation officer, Inspector Aida, at +6012-4027283.
