The scene unfolded on the morning of 10 October, in Luoyang, Henan province, China when residents heard a little girl's cries and discovered her and her brother perched precariously on the AC unit.
Sohu, a local news website, reported that the mother sat on the nearby windowsill, blocking her husband's attempts to reach the children while continuing to argue with him.
A viral video captured by a neighbour has been viewed over 55 million times on Weibo
The footage reveals the girl sobbing in terror while her brother appears calm despite the perilous situation.
Authorities were alerted by a concerned resident, prompting a swift response from the local fire department.
"A fire rescue vehicle came and the children were rescued," an official from the Women and Children's Federation confirmed.
