Zeti Akhtar Aziz Is The New PNB Chairman

The former BNM governor will assume the post at PNB on 1 July.

Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) has announced Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz as the new Chairman. The former BNM governor will replace Abdul Wahid Omar, who is retiring as Chairman effective from 30 June.

Zeti will assume the Chairman post at the country's largest fund manager on 1 July.

"The board of directors of PNB would like to take the opportunity to thank Tan Sri Abdul Wahid for his invaluable contribution and dedicated service as the group chairman.

"The boards of YPB and PNB welcome the appointment of Tan Sri Dr Zeti and expressed confidence that given her longstanding and vast experience, she will continue to provide strong leadership to the PNB group in pursuing its founding mandate to enhance corporate wealth for the benefit of Malaysians," PNB said today.

Zeti Akhtar is presently one of the members of the Council of Eminent Persons, entrusted to advise the Pakatan Harapan govt on matters pertaining to economic and financial matters

Zeti, who served as central bank governor until 2016, was BNM's first female governor.

Meanwhile, PNB, which was set up by the government in 1978, holds stakes in some of Malaysia's biggest companies

The USD69 billion fund remains heavily invested in Malaysia. It holds stakes in Malayan Banking Bhd., Sime Darby Bhd. and UMW Holdings Bhd, among others.
