In 2026, Artificial Intelligence adoption is shaped more by age, trust, and lifestyle needs than by technical capability
While younger generations interact with AI frequently and across diverse areas, older generations approach the technology selectively, prioritising concrete, practical benefits.
1. Generation Z (born 1997–2012)
Gen Z leads all age groups in AI integration, viewing it as a partner for experimentation, career growth, and self-expression.
Research found that roughly 70% to 79% of Gen Z use AI tools, and 93% of young full-time workers utilise multiple AI applications weekly. While 61% view AI skills as mandatory for career growth, 63% worry about AI-driven job displacement.
A Google survey of full-time workers aged 22–27 found that 93% use two or more AI tools weekly, including ChatGPT, DALL-E, and Otter.ai.
Their emotional response is highly mixed, ranging from anxiety (41%) to excitement (36%).

Millennials are embracing AI as a practical tool for productivity, decision-making, and everyday life, making them one of the most AI-confident generations in the workforce.
Research shows that 90% of Millennials are comfortable using AI at work, the highest of any generation. Deloitte also reports that 56% of Millennials actively use generative AI in the workplace, while McKinsey found that 62% of employees aged 35-44 report high levels of AI expertise, compared to 50% of Gen Z and 22% of Baby Boomers.
Their adoption extends beyond the workplace. Around 43% of Millennials use AI weekly, while 58% believe AI will significantly change their daily lives. Notably, 62% say they are more excited than concerned about the technology.

Gen X is adopting AI with a practical mindset, prioritising tools that improve efficiency, security, and convenience rather than using technology for experimentation or entertainment.
Research shows that 59% of Gen X adults are using AI-powered assistants and chatbots more frequently in 2026 than they did two years ago. Around one in three are regular AI users, while 55% believe AI will improve their lives. Industry data also indicates that 68% of people who do not use AI belong to Gen X and Baby Boomer cohorts, highlighting a more cautious approach to adoption.

Baby Boomers have the lowest AI adoption rates of any generation, but many are already using AI-powered tools without necessarily thinking of them as artificial intelligence. Adoption tends to be strongest when the technology is simple, practical, and integrated into familiar products and services.
Research shows 71% have never used tools such as ChatGPT, and between 50% and 68% of Boomers remain non-users of AI. Sentiment towards the technology remains mixed, with 49% expressing skepticism and 45% reporting distrust, although 32% say they feel hopeful about AI's potential.
Unlike younger generations who actively seek out AI tools, Baby Boomers are more likely to encounter AI through products and services they already use.
