This Footballer Was Sent Off For Farting During A Match
'I had a bad stomach, so I simply let go.'
A Swedish footballer was recently sent off during a match for the most bizarre reason - farting too loud. Yep, you read that right.
Adam Lindin Ljungkvist was playing at left-back for Pershagen SK in the seventh tier of Swedish football when he was shown suddenly a second yellow card
The 21-year-old told Swedish newspaper Länstidningen Södertälje, “I had a bad stomach, so I simply let go. Then I received two yellow cards and so a red. Yes, I was shocked, it's the strangest thing I have ever experienced in football."
The aggrieved defender was upset that he got sent off for breaking a little wind. Granted, who wouldn't be upset to be penalised for farting?!
“I don’t get it but maybe he thought I farted in my hand and threw the fart at him. But I did not. To provoke anyone with a fart is not particularly smart or normal. It's nonsense – I just broke wind and got a red card," said Ljungkvist.
Ljungkvist confronted the referee after the match and called him a 'buffon' for sending him off
"I spoke to the referee afterwards, I was annoyed, but there were no bad words. I just said he was a buffoon. Now I can only laugh about it. This has to be unprecedented, surely. I've never heard of anyone who has been sent off for doing a fart," he said.
So, what’s so lethal about the fart that led to the decision? To referee Dany Kako, the act was inappropriate and a deliberate act of provocation.
“I perceived it as a deliberate provocation. He did it on purpose and it was inappropriate. Therefore, he received a yellow card. Once there was a player who stood and peed next to the pitch. I showed him a yellow card, too," said the unapologetic Kako.
Definitely one of the strangest things we've came across on football in recent times...
You could say it was really... a foul play.
