Lampard, in a sense, has become a victim of owner Roman Abramovich’s drive not just to overhaul his squad but also to create what one source described as a “hungry new team”.

"They would be mad to let him leave Chelsea, he's still one of the best in the world. If he wants to play in Italy I would welcome him to Juventus with open arms," said Juventus midfielder.

Frank Lampard's contract not renewed

Lampard has had to accept that and just wants to carry on playing football for Chelsea so as to finish the season as successfully as possible for the club that he loves.

Chelsea's stalwart midfielder will leave Chelsea at the end of the season, according to his agent Steve Kutner. Telegraph Sport takes a look at the midfielder's options.

It is understood that Lampard's discussions with Chelsea were designed purely to appraise him of Chelsea’s stance rather than to offer him any hope of a new deal.
