Hana Kimura, a professional Japanese wrestler, died on Saturday, 23 May, amidst cyberbullying, according to her social media posts

The 22-year-old was among the cast of "Terrace House", a popular reality show on Netflix.

According to the streaming giant, the show revolves around six strangers who "share a fabulous house in Tokyo, looking for love while living under the same roof".

News about her death was confirmed by Stardom Wrestling, which represented Hana.

According to a report in Nikkei Asian Review, while the wrestling promotion business did not say anything about the cause of Hana's death, she had posted a picture of herself and a cat with the message "I love you, please live a long and joyful life. I'm sorry," on Instagram, shortly before her death was confirmed.

The same was reported by the BBC, which said the post was the most recent update on her Instagram.

Stardom Wrestling asked fans to be respectful

"We are very sorry to report that our Hana Kimura has passed away. Please be respectful and allow some time for things to process, and keep your thoughts and prayers with her family and friends," it said.

Hana was a second-generation wrestler. Her mother, Kyoko Kimura, is a former professional wrestler.

Hana made her wrestling debut in 2016

Following which, she won her first title, the JWP Junior Championship 2016 and was the leader of the Tokyo Cyber Squad faction in 2019, according to a report in Variety.

She twice won the Artist of Stardom Championship, in addition to a Goddess of Stardom Championship.

The BBC said that the pro wrestler had been a target of online bullying

According to the report, there would be hundreds of mean tweets against her on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, Forbes said that the Internet wrestling community is among "the most toxic of fanbases" and hoped that Hana's death will bring about much-needed discussions of social media behaviour.
