Even before Malaysia could realise its dream of Thomas Cup glory after a 22-year drought, everyone in the country can rejoice over the fact that the highly-anticipated final will be available live for free over TV1 and Astro.

Malaysians can watch Sunday’s highly-anticipated Thomas Cup final for free via the Astro on the Go (AOTG)

Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) will broadcast the Thomas Cup final between Malaysia and Japan in New Delhi from 5.30pm today.

Its director-general of broadcasting said the network received the green light to do so from Astro, which held the broadcasting right to the Thomas Cup/Uber Cup Finals 2014

Director-general of broadcasting Datuk Norhyati Ismail said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek had urged RTM to discuss the matter with Astro.

It is Malaysia’s first final in 12 years. The country last won the Thomas Cup back in 1992 in Kuala Lumpur when they defeated Indonesia.

Today’s final promises to be an explosive affair as both Malaysia and Japan made it to the final after knocking out badminton giants Indonesia and China with a convincing 3-0 score. It is Japan’s first final in the game’s history.

Malaysians, including non-subscribers, can also catch the final for free via the Astro on the Go app
