Good news Facebook fans! The social media service company released a new app for Android over the weekend
Well, technically it's not really new. Rather, it's a stripped down version of the full Facebook app.
Facebook has launched a stripped-down version of its app aimed at the huge potential user base in emerging markets.

The new app will be less than 1MB in size, and includes the News Feed, status updates, photos, notifications and other bits and pieces familiar to users of the social network.

The Facebook Lite app is designed for use in developing countries where mobile data services can be spotty, slow and with low-bandwidth.

Data-heavy features like video and locations services aren't supported, but users will be able to receive push notifications and share pictures on the fly. The app has also been optimized to take advantage of 2G networks and work in areas with a bad signal.
