OMG, There's Facebook In Malaysia Now?
The social media giant opened an office in Manila two weeks ago!
Fresh off the launch of its Philippines office two weeks ago, Facebook has opened a new office here in Malaysia!
Facebook opened its first Southeast Asia office in Thailand back in 2015. The Malaysian branch is located in Kuala Lumpur.
Dan Neary, Facebook’s Vice President of Asia Pacific announced the opening in a Facebook post, saying that there are 18 million users in the country
"Our mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected – and 18 million Malaysians are using Facebook every month. That is over 81% of everyone on the Internet — connecting with family, friends, and businesses for the moments important to them," he said in his post.
Neary added that he's a fan of a local startup, Zarawa, which sells modern clothing for Muslim women
Neary said, "I particularly like the story of the Malaysia e-commerce startup Zawara, which provides modern clothing for Muslim women. Using Facebook, they’re creatively showcasing their beautiful clothing with the right people whilst demonstrating their virtual fitting room technology.
Today, they have grown from a 2-person start-up to a thriving e-commerce destination with 19 offline stores. And we've been partnering with businesses of all sizes to help them connect to more people with relevant messages."
Much like all the offices in the Southeast Asia region, the Malaysian office will help grow and expand businesses while maintaining a strong social media presence
"The team here is committed to providing business solutions for local companies and agencies while connecting them directly to consumers," said Kenneth Bishop, Facebook Southeast Asia managing director.
The move doesn't come as a surprise considering Malaysian users have 60% more friends than the global average number on Facebook
Malaysia is also ranked 10th in the world for having the most friends.
