In detail: Apple's new camera-less 16GB iPod Touch with Retina Display
Apple today made a quiet update to its iPod touch lineup, launching a new 16 GB fifth-generation model without a rear camera for $229.
macrumors.comThe new iPod touch features the same 4-inch Retina Display as the previous model and the iPhone 5S, but drops storage and the rear facing camera to cut the price by $70.
gottabemobile.comBy all appearances the new iPod touch looks like a 5th generation iPod touch, but it is only available in silver and black and in place of a camera there is a black cover, which is very un-Apple in looks.
gottabemobile.comThe 6.1mm thick player will come in black and silver, and will likely ship within 24 hours. There's no word yet on an operating system but seeing as how iOS 7 isn't expected to be announced until June, it will probably ship with iOS 6 with the consolation of an upgrade when available.
streetwise.coThe new iPod touch comes just a day After Tim Cook spoke about Apple’s reasoning for offering multiple iPod models to fit varying use cases and price points. In this case it appears that Apple is reaching out to price conscious consumers who want a cheap iPod touch for their kids or themselves.

Apple has sold 100m iPod touches since it launched in 2007
Following today's launch of a new stripped-down 16 GB fifth-generation iPod touch, The Loop reports Apple has disclosed that the company has reached a milestone for the device with over 100 million units sold since its launch in 2007.
macrumors.comThe company has managed to hit the milestone in roughly five and a half years, which is considerable given the rise in smartphones and comparative decline in dedicated MP3 and multimedia players.
thenextweb.comApple's announcement is particularly interesting because the company has not historically offered a breakdown of sales among different iPod models.
