[PHOTOS] Xiaomi's Uber Cool (And Ridiculously Cheap) Mi Band Is Soon Coming To Malaysia
Costing less than RM60, Xiaomi's new fitness tracker Mi Band is undeniably a steal, and it has some nifty tricks to boot.
Xiaomi, after offering high-quality smartphones at mid-range prices and capturing the smartphone market, is now hopping on the wearable tech bandwagon with its Mi Band. It's a slickly designed fitness tracker that sells for less than RM60 (USD 18).
The Mi Band, which went on sale in China on 18 August and is expected to launch in the Malaysian market soon, is an impressive entry-level wearable tech for those that don't really want to make a big monetary commitment into their first fitness tracker
Flaunting an extremely uber looking aluminium surface with a micro laser perforation and no display screen, the Mi Band is water resistant (IP67) and boasts a standby life of 30 days
It's IP67 certification means that it's very resistant to dust and can be submerged up to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes inside water
Packing quite a handful of sensors to monitor your daily health activities like distance walked, calories burnt, and how much deep sleep you managed, the Mi Band offers basically all the features of a high-end fitness band at a tiny fraction of the price
Made of a hypoallergenic band that is suitable for sensitive skin, all of its technical features live inside a small alloy body with LED notification lights. This alloy device can be easily slipped in and out of different colour rubber wrist straps to suit your style.
Equipped with a silent alarm which vibrates, the Mi Band also comes with proximity unlocking feature, which allows a Xiaomi phone to be unlocked without keying in a passcode when the Mi Band is within 15cm of the phone. The band will work with most Android smartphones, but some features may not be available.
But it seems that the Mi Band is not only going to push for fame among Android users – a new video, posted on Xiao MiShop's YouTube channel, shows that the Mi Band is iOS-ready, pairing up to an iPhone 6 that has the proprietary Xiaomi app installed on it
While the exact date regarding when is it going to be made available for Malaysian fans is not known yet, a new listing has appeared on Xiaomi Malaysia's website for the Mi Band
The Xiaomi Mi Band will be priced at RM59, but a Fitness Bundle with the Redmi Note 4G will be made available on its 16 December sale for RM648 – you don’t actually save on this bundle. Xiaomi has not yet provided any indication that the Mi Band will be available for sale on its own, though its retail price reveal should mean it would be available soon in a variety of colours. Head on to the official Mi Band product page for more information, complete with sleek animations.
