POCO Shuts Down Its Global Website. Here's Why
Hint: It's to do with Xiaomi.
POCO has announced the impending closure of its global websites under the po.co/global/ domain
The move, set to take effect on 31 December 2024, will see POCO's product pages, customer service, and other offerings migrate to Xiaomi's global website at mi.com/global/
POCO is a sub-brand of Xiaomi known for its budget-friendly smartphones.
This transition signifies a consolidation of services, with POCO assuring customers that those who purchased products via POCO's websites or the POCO Store app will continue receiving customer and after-sales support through Xiaomi.
Following the closure, any attempt to access POCO'’s sites will redirect users to Xiaomi's main domain, the brand announced on its website.
Just to be clear, the decision shouldn't be viewed as a sign of trouble for the POCO brand
POCO's products will still be available, albeit under Xiaomi's umbrella.
The shift indicates that POCO may no longer operate as an independent entity.
The brand has maintained its autonomous status since announcing it in 2020.
POCO does not run a separate website in Malaysia
Instead, its products are already listed on Xiaomi Malaysia's site.
However, the brand maintains a local presence with its own Instagram page and independent stores on e-commerce platforms like Lazada and Shopee.
The closure of POCO's dedicated global sites is a strategic move that could streamline Xiaomi's brand operations, potentially simplifying the shopping experience for consumers.
For POCO fans, this could mean tighter integration with Xiaomi's wider ecosystem, without losing access to the value-for-money devices the brand is known for.
