Are you the observant, creative kind who sometimes thinks of how cities like PJ and KL could be planned better?
Or the person to appreciate how cities in other countries provide thoughtful, innovative infrastructure for their residents?
Take Barcelona as an example. The Catalan capital has a seamless public transportation infrastructure, more efficient lighting using LED technology, and a smart parking system.
This September, the concept of "smart cities" will take centre stage at the Selangor Smart City & Future Commerce Convention 2017
Slated to be one of biggest smart city events in Asia this year, the three-day convention will focus on how smart and digital technologies are transforming major cities around the world. It will also touch on how the state of Selangor can benefit from the ever-changing tech landscape.
1. Gain valuable insights from international speakers who have years of experience in building smart cities
There's Antoni Vives from Barcelona. As former deputy mayor of Barcelona, he has been in charge of the city’s smart city development as head of the urban habitat in Barcelona - a committee that focuses on holistic and interdisciplinary urban planning.
Dr Jonathan Reichental, currently the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the City of Palo Alto, is a multiple award-winning technology leader whose 25-year career has spanned both the private and public sectors.
Other notable speakers include Zhang Hu, Executive Vice-Mayor of Shenzhen, and Frans-Anton Vermast, Senior Strategy Advisor for Low Carbon & Connected Urban Planning of Amsterdam.
2. Familiarise yourself on important topics like big data, digital urbanisation, and zero waste cities
You might've heard of big data in your workplace but what does it actually mean?
3. It's a 6-in-1 convention - which means there's something for everyone!
Don't expect your average convention! It comes with 3 different forums, namely, Smart Cities, Green Cities and Future Commerce that feature international speakers, keynotes and plenary sessions. The Smart City exhibition also has loads of AI, VR, Drones and Tesla technology, which you and even your child can enjoy!
Finally, the hackathon pits teams against each other to develop the future of smart city and future commerce tech, and the Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards will reveal Malaysia's greatest e-commerce company yet. With so many goodies in store, it's sure to be a meaningful and educational journey for many.
4. Your chance to witness a hackathon
Around 300 engineers and designers will get together to hack something cool, something neat, and something clever. It will be intense!
5. Students can enter the convention for free
Untung lah, students!
The Selangor Smart City & Future Commerce Convention 2017 will take place at the Setia Alam Convention Centre, 7-9 September
