PSA: You Can't Delete Your Threads Account Without Deleting Your Instagram Profile Too
But you can deactivate it without affecting your Instagram account.
Threads, a new text-based conversation app akin to Twitter has been surging in popularity and downloads since its release yesterday.
But there's a caveat.
The text-based conversation app has accumulated over 30 million signups within a day of release, Mark Zuckerberg claims.
However, despite the positive reception the app has received so far, many users were baffled by a particular decision from the developers.
According to their Supplemental Privacy Policy, your Threads profile is directly linked to your Instagram account, so if you want to delete it, you can only do so by erasing your Instagram account.
As it stands, users are not too keen over the fact that their Thread accounts are locked to their Instagram profiles.
However, there is a solution to this, kinda.
Adam Mosseri, the Head of Instagram, has since addressed users' concerns
Mosseri clarified that you can shut down your Threads account without affecting your Instagram account by deactivating it. Deactivating your account means putting it on private mode, hiding your profile and its contents.
Furthermore, he stated that the app is currently designed this way because it is powered by Instagram, but they are actively looking for a solution so users can delete their Threads accounts separately.
Here's how you can deactivate your Threads account, just in case you're wondering:
Have you been using Threads since it launched? What do you think of it? Let us know!
