WhatsApp is about to save you from a lot of embarrassment.
The popular messaging app is planning to roll out an update that will allow you to edit and delete sent messages!
The news arrives via the WABetaInfo Twitter channel, a source of early WhatsApp news and speculation, which claims to have discovered the feature in the WhatsApp 22.214.171.1249 beta build for iOS.
This would be the first time WhatsApp has introduced such features since it launched in 2010.
The channel tweeted a video showing the message deletion process in action. It appears to work by tapping and holding on a sent message to bring up a list of options, including 'revoke'.
The update can be applied to read WhatsApp messages as well. An 'edit' option is also available in the same menu, which would allow users to amend the content of sent messages.
Those with access to the early beta release say the feature is disabled by default, meaning you have to seek it out within the settings menu to enable it
At the moment, you can only delete sent messages at your end. So if you make an embarrassing typo or say something regrettable, you can remove it, but the recipient is still able to see it.
Though this rumour pertains to the iOS build, it’s highly likely that the feature would also roll out to the Android version. There's no release date as of now.
The update will certainly come in handy especially during the times when autocorrect fails you...
