Bluesky and X have both rolled out new features aimed at capturing a slice of the short-form video audience, bringing fresh competition to the video-sharing space

Bluesky has introduced customisable video feeds, allowing users to curate their own streams by swiping up or down through targeted video content.

These feeds can be pinned for quick access, with hashtag-driven channels such as #BookSky mirroring TikTok's popular #BookTok trend.

The platform also highlighted the work of AT Protocol developers who are crafting decentralised TikTok alternatives, including Tik.Blue and Skylight.Social, which remain in early development.

Meanwhile, X has unveiled its own "Video Tab", a dedicated space in the app's navigation bar designed to highlight trending video content

The tab aggregates real-time recommendations spanning sports, news, and entertainment, reinforcing the company's push towards becoming a central hub for multimedia consumption.

This surge in video-centric features comes as TikTok weathers turbulence in the US market, with recent service disruptions providing an opportune moment for competitors to step in.

However, the feature is not available to Malaysian users yet.

Instagram has also entered the fray, announcing Edits, a new video-editing tool positioned as a direct challenger to CapCut, the ByteDance-owned editing app favoured by TikTok creators

While TikTok remains dominant, its rivals are clearly positioning themselves as viable alternatives, refining their offerings in an attempt to lure creators and viewers alike.

Whether these new features can sustain long-term engagement remains to be seen, but for now, the battle for short-form video supremacy is intensifying.
