TIL: You Can't Block Mark Zuckerberg (Or His Wife) On Facebook
We wonder why.
Facebook's block feature, which allows you to block anyone you don't want to see in your Newsfeed or keep from seeing your posts, doesn't work on CEO Mark Zuckerberg
If you try to do it (we tried), you will get a notice saying:
This profile can't be blocked for now
On the surface, it looks like a feature that ensures Zuckerberg can reach to as many people of the more than 2 billion who use Facebook. Currently, there are more than 95 million people who follow Zuckerberg.
However, Facebook insists this is a "glitch".
According to this piece by Fast Company, “a spokesperson explained that when an account gets blocked many times in a short period, others trying to block the account may get an error message.”
What they are basically saying is that because so many people are trying to block the Facebook CEO that the site's blocking mechanism is overloaded.
Guess, the world will have to take Facebook’s word for it.
The spokesperson added that this is a temporary thing and "it does not prevent people from reporting profiles or Pages that they think are in violation of our Community Standards"
But IF it's a temporary thing, how is it that it has been around since 2010?
YES, users have been unable to block Mark Zuckerberg since at least August 2010, when TechCrunch first reported about it, writing:
"If you want to block Zuckerberg, you should be able to block Zuckerberg."
And it's not just Zuckerberg, even his wife, Priscilla Chan, can't be blocked. But, you can still block his dog, Beast.
But what sort of a person would ever want to block a dog?
