The 14th General Election was a special occasion for Malaysia

Malaysians - young and old - came out in droves to exercise their right to participate in a democratic process, voting for candidates of their choice who had been campaigning for months leading to 9 May.

The result was unprecedented in Malaysia's history: Barisan Nasional, who had been in power for 61 years, was booted out of office by Pakatan Harapan, a multi-party pact led by veteran politician Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad.

How does one commemorate something so historical and significant?

On the silver screen, of course.

Rise: Ini Kalilah is a film inspired by the events and people of GE14 and will feature local celebrities and influencers including Remy Ishak, Jack Tan, Sangeeta Krishnasamy, Mira Filzah, and Jenn Chia.

Helmed by award-winning producer Fred Chong's WebTVAsia, Rise is co-directed by a trio of established filmmakers: Saw Teong Hin, Nik Amir Mustapha, and Prem Nath.

Principal shooting took place at Malaysia, Singapore, and the UK.

The synopsis revolves around lives of different Malaysians dealing with life's challenges leading up to 9 May

"Each story that unfolds show what it means to be a true Malaysian – respect, hope, standing up for yourself, fighting for your rights, redemption, and building the future," WebTvAsia said in a press release.

Executive producer Fred Chong added, "This film is a tribute to our Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed and his leadership team for achieving the seemingly impossible mission of giving new hope to the nation."

The film is slated to release on 13 September 2018 at major cinemas nationwide. You can check out the trailer below:
