The year 2016 has been an eventful one for Malaysians. There was a lot of good stuff that happened that made this otherwise politically turmoil year a beautiful one for the country. Below, we take a look back at all of them:
1. When concerned and kindhearted university lecturers took the matters of starving students into their own hands by offering a fridge full of free food and drinks
2. When Halijah Idris, known as Mak Intan, the widow of famous stray animal rescuer Pak Mie, received the "Dignifying A Profession" award from the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya for her unconditional love for stray animals
3. When Tony Fernandes become the only second person to receive the 'Fourth Pillar' award after President Barack Obama, for his extraordinary contribution towards the growth of ASEAN and the US-ASEAN relationship
4. When an open letter from a father to parents reminded the importance of accepting the SPM results of their kids
5. In this day and age, when it's easier to lie, Aunty Paruvathy of Sunway Lagoon instead showed integrity when she stumbled across an unattended bag and without a second thought, surrendered it to security personnel
6. When this "Malay chap" stopped at the junction of Taman Desa traffic lights after noticing broken glasses and nails on the middle of the street and got down off his bike and proceeded to sweep the caltrops off the road so that passing motorist would not be risked
7. When a young Malaysian made the nation proud after he graduated from the prestigious United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, New York
8. When Professor Dr. Muzlifah Aishah Haniffa, a Malaysian clinical scientist at Newcastle University was awarded the Lister Institute Research Prize for her outstanding work
9. When Mohamad Ridzuan Puzi and Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli made Malaysia's decades-long dream come true, by giving us a chance to hear the 'Negaraku' being played in the Paralympics not once but twice within hours
10. When Malaysia was crowned as Asia's Top Travel Destination, beating Singapore, Macau, and S. Korea
11. When Dr. Christopher Ho Chee Kong, a Urologist and Sexual Medicine Professor at UKM became the first Malaysian to receive the International Guest Scholarship Award from the American College of Surgeons
12. When Ola Bola's theme song 'Arena Cahaya' was awarded the Best Original Song at the 53rd Annual Golden Horse Film Awards
13. When Mohd Shadzwan Kamalrulzaman, A Malaysian national basketball player, saved a man's life at the Hong Kong airport and gained widespread attention and praise
14. When a Malaysian, known as Lee Hui Sen, willingly gave up his hard-earned RM44,500 for a family that he has not even seen in person, showing us what is like to be the light in this darkness with his selfless act
