In yet another wave of the French pastry invasion, Ladurée - one of Paris' most iconic pastry shops - is finally opening its first outpost in Malaysia!

For the past 155 years, Ladurée has made its name as one of the world's most renowned bakeries and makers of the double-decker macaron. It's no surprise really, seeing as Ladurée practically invented the sweet treat!

Founded by miller and prolific writer Louis-Ernest Ladurée in 1862, Ladurée had humble beginnings as a small bakery in Rue Royale, Paris making sweets and baked goods.

It wasn't until 1930 that his grandson Pierre Desfontaines had the original idea to create the double-decker macarons by sticking two macaron shells together with a creamy ganache filling in the middle, bringing about the French macarons we know today.

To date, the pastry chain has expanded to five continents, with over 20 outlets in Asia alone including branches in Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, and Hong Kong.

Even when macarons became "trendy" among hipster cafes and artisanal bakeries in the 2010s, Ladurée maintained its reputation, selling more than 20,000 of their famous macarons every single day all over the world

In popular culture, Ladurée's macarons have appeared in the film 'Marie Antoinette' and the hit TV series 'Gossip Girl' as Blair Waldorf's favourite pastries.

The pastry chain also regularly collaborates with fashion designers such as Christian Louboutin and Marni as well as having created unique macarons for Albert II, the Prince of Monaco's wedding to Charlene Wittstock in 2011.

Laduree's version of this dainty sweet treat has been described as just sweet enough with crunchy and light outer shells, complemented by a silky, flavourful filling that melts in your mouth

The macarons come in a wide assortment flavours ranging from classic variations of chocolate, vanilla, and salted caramel to unique flavours like rose petals, orange blossom, and matcha.

No date has been set yet, but rest assured that Ladurée's first Malaysian outpost is expected to open its doors at Pavilion KL's Couture Zone (Level 3) very, very soon. :D

It's a work in progress, but it's DEFINITELY coming soon!
