2. Hotel Penaga @ Corner of Hutton Lane & Clarke Street

Built in the 1920s, the hotel was originally three rows of double-storey terraced houses and shops and had even undergone renovation post-war. Over the years, the art deco terraces of the original building fell into disrepair until it was bought in 2008 and converted into a 45-room hotel by well-known architect Hijjas Kasturi and his wife, Angela.

3. Yeng Keng Hotel @ Chulia Street

Originally built as a private residence in the 1880s, the Anglo Indian bungalow was converted into a budget hotel in the early 20th century as lodgings near the harbour gained popularity due to the increase in traffic in the port. Conservation and upgrading works were undertaken in March 2009, with the renewed 20-room Yeng Keng Hotel completed in April 2010.
