A 15-year-old boy is reported to have died on the spot after being struck by a falling chair at a low-cost apartment in Pantai Dalam last night, 15 January

The incident happened at about 8.30pm.

The teen, identified as S. Sathiwaran, was about to enter the apartment block with his 45-year-old mother when a blue office chair, believed to have been thrown from the upper floors, crashed down and directly struck the victim

According to Malay Mail Online, the chair also hit the teen's mother.

Sources alleged that the boy sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene, while his mother survived

Sinar Harian reported that one of the flat residents was at the parking lot of the apartment block when he heard a loud thud.

"I thought it was nothing out of the ordinary as people are always throwing things from the upper floors. But then I heard screams and people started running in search of the source," he was quoted as saying.

"Then I saw the victim lying unconscious with injuries to his head."

Brickfields district police chief ACP Ruslan Khalid confirmed the incident. Investigations are currently ongoing, though suspects have yet to be identified.

The case is being investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence or recklessness.

Malay Mail Online reported that Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has called for a press conference today over this incident.
