The Special Court For Sexual Crimes Against Children has allowed bail to a male teacher of a primary school who had sexually molested a 9-year-old male student inside the school's washroom

The bail of RM10,000 in one surety was allowed by Judge Yong Zarida Sazali, who also ordered the teacher "to not intimidate or go near the victim or his family members until disposal of the case," reported New Straits Times (NST).

It should be noted, though, that the bail was allowed despite the prosecution, represented by deputy public prosecutor Nordalina Ali, arguing against it on the seriousness of the offence.

"The accused is a teacher when the victim is schooling. If bail is allowed, it is feared that the accused will intimidate the prosecution witnesses, especially the victim and his parents," she was quoted as saying by the NST.

Before his bail, the teacher pleaded not guilty to the charge of committing sexual physical contact on a nine-year-old male student

The teacher, who is 27 years old, has been charged with committing the offence by hugging and kissing the boy inside the toilet of a school in Petaling Jaya.

NST reports that he committed the vile acts on August 2016 and 17 July this year.

If found guilty, he could be jailed for up to 25 years and be subject to whipping under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 16.

While he was allowed bail, the accused has been ordered to report himself at the nearest police station every month and to surrender his passport to the court, which has set 25 September for mention

The Palace of Justice houses , the Malaysian Court of Appeal and Federal Court, and now the Special Children's Court for Sex Crimes.
