RM240 Million Has Been Spent On Upgrading The Malaccan Airport, But No Flights Have Taken Off Since March
A total of RM240 million has been spent to upgrade the Malacca International Airport (MIA) but since March 15 this year, no commercial flight has taken off from here.
“However after spending RM240 million to upgrade and lengthen the runway, from 15 March this year, there have been no commercial flights taking off from this airport.

Khoo Has Challenged Current Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai To Revive The Airport
Melaka DAP today challenged the new Minister of Transport Liow Tiong Lai to revive the ‘dead’ Melaka International Airport.
“MCA leaders especially Liow had said that they want to serve the people and the government. MCA’s wish has been granted and its president is now the Minister of Transport.
“Since our new (Melaka) Chief Minister Idris Haron has failed to turn the Melaka International Airport into a revenue generating airport and the airport has not seen a commercial flight since March 15 this year, I challenge Liow to show us his expertise and capabilities by reviving the Melaka International Airport.”
There Were Numerous Attempts To Revive The Airport But The Results Were Not Encouraging
“Recently the state government negotiated with AirAsia and FireFly on the possibility of operating from here. “However based on previous records, FireFly had operated from here but stopped the service due to poor response. “The state government set-up Melaka Air by renting planes from FireFly, but that effort failed as well.
The recently upgraded airport has not seen any commercial flights take off since March this year.
