Teen who killed a newlywed in NSE car crash charged for causing death

According to a report by The Star today, 19-year-old girl who drove against traffic and killed a 26-year-old newlywed will be charged under Section 44 (1) (a) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

She will be charged for driving under the influence of drugs and causing death or injury to any persons at the Bukit Mertajam magistrate's court tomorrow, 24 March.

If convicted, Ng may face a jail sentence of up to 10 years and a fine of no more than RM20,000 or both. She may even have her license suspended for a minimum of five years.

"The AG has agreed to charge the suspect under Section 44 (1) (a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a jail term of between three and 10 years or a fine of between RM8,000 and RM20,000 or both, if convicted," explained Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid.

New Straits Times reported today, 17 March, that the teenager who caused a freak accident when she drove against traffic along the North-South Expressway (NSE) on Tuesday morning has been charged under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for administering drugs into the body.

Ng Pei Ven pleaded not guilty to the drug abuse charge. She tested positive for amphetamines on Tuesday evening at the Seberang Prai Tengah district police headquarters Narcotics Department.

If found guilty under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Ng Pei Ven may be fined for not more than RM5,000 or jailed for not more than two years.

The Star reported that bail was granted at RM5,000 with two sureties and 12 May has been set for mention. Ng will need to report to the Seberang Prai Tengah once a week.

She is also being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.

16 MARCH: 19-year-old who caused horrific accident in NSE has an OKU card

The Sun Daily reported that the teenage girl who drove against traffic and caused a six-vehicle accident on Tuesday morning, is a Card for Person with Disabilities (OKU) holder. The accident killed a 26-year-old man.

According to a state welfare department officer the English daily spoke to, the girl was issued the OKU card because she was diagnosed as a slow learner.

"Doctors had recommended she undergo a special education program when she was in Form One," added the officer.

She tested positive for amphetamine when arrested and her blood test results for presence of alcohol is still pending.

The girl is currently under remand until Saturday, 18 March, to assist investigations for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol under the Road Transport Act 1987 and for consumption of illegal drugs under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The accident happened along the North-South Expressway (NSE), right after the Sungai Dua toll plaza in Penang at KM 134 at about 7.50am yesterday.

According to New Straits Times (NST), a 19-year-old female driver in a Proton Gen 2 caused the accident involving six vehicles when she drove against the flow of traffic along NSE. She was on the fast lane.

Her car crashed into a Kelisa, which spun to the left lane and rammed into three other vehicles.

The man in the Kelisa, 26-year-old Mohamad Fandi Rosli, died on the spot and four other people sustained minor injuries from the incident.

The teeanger who caused the accident escaped with light injuries.

The 19-year-old tested positive for methamphetamine and has been arrested for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving

She is currently being detained under the Road Transport Act 1987 for further investigation.

It was reported that she was involved in another accident with an MPV earlier, near the Sungai Dua toll and she had allegedly entered the opposite lane in her efforts to escape.

The victim, Mohamad Fandi Rosli's funeral was held yesterday evening at Kampung Pokok Assam in Penang. He had just gotten married three months ago.

NST reported that the victim got married to Norashikin Abdul Halim, 26, a nurse at Selayang Hospital in Selangor, three months ago.

She had rushed to the scene after hearing the news and even collapsed a few times after arriving at around 3pm yesterday.

Meanwhile, Fandi's 57-year-old father, Rosli Lin, said that he is still trying to process the tragedy that befell his son. Fandi was on his way back home after completing his night shift at a factory at Seberang Jaya when the accident happened.

"I was in a state of disbelief when I saw the video clip of the car travelling against the traffic flow on the expressway moments before it crashed into my son's car.

"I leave it to the police to investigate the incident but we want justice for my son," he said when met after the funeral," added Rosli.
