People are doing anything and everything for validation on social media these days.

Most recently, a man in Algeria has been sentenced to two years in prison for dangling a baby out of a window just to get some "Likes" on Facebook.

According to the BBC, the unidentified man sparked panic on Sunday when he posted a picture of him dangling a baby out of a 15th-floor apartment window in the capital, Algiers.

The man, a relative of the young boy, captioned the images with: "1,000 likes or I will drop him."

The late Michael Jackson sparked outrage when he appeared to dangle his baby son Prince over his hotel balcony in front of photographers in 2002.

Many were rightly outraged over the sick stunt - which eerily resembled the time the late Michael Jackson dangled his son, Prince over a hotel balcony. In the case of the Algerian man, authorities were quickly alerted, with the man arrested and put to trial.

The man denied putting the baby at risk and claimed that he was on a balcony with protective barriers, but they were altered by social media users

"The picture was taken in a balcony with protective barriers. These were removed," he was quoted as saying.

The judge, however, was not convinced by his explanation, saying that the child's life was in a clear danger and found him guilty.
