Italy and Uruguay battled it out in a must-win game to advance to the knockout round. A late goal by Uruguay eliminated the Italians from the World Cup, but this was not without controversy which literally left a 'mark' on a player.

1. Italian defender Marchisio earned a red card by making a dangerous tackle with his studs up
2. With Italy being 10 men down, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez shockingly bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini in what looks like an attempt to take one more player out. He was not punished.
3. This incident affected the Italians as a goal was scored just minutes after the bite, thus sending them out of the World Cup
