Digimon Is Bringing Back The Original Virtual Pet For Its 20th Anniversary
The toy - highly popular in the 1990s - is making a return with spanking new features.
It's no secret that Pokémon had a wonderful 2016 but Pikachu and company are about to face an ominous threat this year.
2017 marks the 20th anniversary of Digimon and the popular anime series is ready to take things up a notch by bringing back a very popular toy from the 90s.
Japanese toy maker and video game manufacturer Bandai announced that it will be bringing back Digimon’s Virtual Pet or Digivice which first debuted back in 1997.
Similar to Tamagochi toys, the Digivice allows players to take care of their pet by feeding, training, playing, as well as evolve it to the next powerful form.
The company will re-launch the Digimon Digivice in the original grey and brown colours
The updated toy is very much like how fans will remember it - it will still feature the familiar box shape, three buttons, and a keychain link that can be attached anywhere.
Aside from that, players will be able to battle others even if their opponents are using other Digivices, but the toy has gotten one notable upgrade. The single-player arena mode will now let you take on a horde of Digimon by yourself, so you don’t have to necessarily have another player to do battle.
According to Bandai, the 20th anniversary Digivice will include monsters from the first five models as well as those that were available during Digimon’s 10th and 15th anniversary
Do note that the creature Gabumon will be exclusive to the grey model, while Agumon will be exclusive to the brown model.
Aside from that, the update version is compatible with several others, including previously launched models, so both old and new players can have fun together!
