Xiaomi is obsessed with Apple. On 27 July, it took its obsession to next level by announcing it's Mi Notebook Air, which is its first-ever laptop. In terms of looks, anyone can mistake it for MacBook Air:

Just like in two colours, it comes in two varieties: a 12.5-inch model and a 13.3-inch model, which is more powerful of the two models

However, unlike Apple's MacBooks, the aluminium-bodied Mi Notebook Air is without an exterior logo, giving it an ultra clean look

The absence of any Xiaomi branding on the front flap could be due to the fact that the laptops are actually made by a Xiaomi subsidiary called Tian Mi. Both laptops run Windows 10 and weight less than 1.5 kg.

Keeping with Xiaomi's tradition, the Mi Notebook Air, while displaying a stylish look and impressive specs, looks solid for the price. Actually, at 4,999 Yuan (RM3,042) for the 13.3-inch model, and 3,499 Yuan (RM2,129) for the 12.5-inch model, it's a steal!

The 13.3-inch version of the Mi Notebook Air comes with an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX dedicated GPU with 1GB GDDR5 RAM, making for an enhanced gaming experience. In addition, it also has 256GB PCIe solid-state drive (SSD) based storage with an additional free SSD slot for storage expansion.

Other key hardware specifications features include Intel Core i5 CPU (up to 2.7GHz), 8GB of DDR4 RAM and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. The company claims that the laptop's 40Wh battery lasts 9.5 hours on a single charge and recharges up to 50% in 30 minutes.

CNET's Aloysius Low reports that while the flex of the Mi Notebook Air at the keyboard could be better, as it doesn't feel as solid as the Apple MacBook Air, the Mi Notebook Air's keyboard feels great to type on and the keys have just the right amount of clickiness

However, Xiaomi is not the only company making its first-ever laptop. Last year in October, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Book, the first laptop ever built by the company:

Speaking of laptops, how can we not talk about batteries?
