The iPhone rumour mill can finally be put to rest.

Apple held one of its biggest events yesterday night, where it unveiled the iPhone X, a top-of-the-line smartphone with an edge-to-edge display and face recognition system.

Calling it "the future of the smartphone", the iPhone X (it's pronounced "ten" by the way, not "X") features a 5.8-inch OLED screen that boasts brighter and sharper colours. It's also the first iPhone to do away with the iconic home button. And no, Apple didn't reinstate the headphone jack.

The iPhone X was released alongside the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

Since the home button is gone, Apple has moved some of the phone's features to a side button.

The facial recognition system or Face ID allows users to unlock the device by scanning their faces with front camera

It will also have two 12 megapixel cameras, as well as the company’s new portrait-lighting feature which promises better selfies.

Apple said the battery has greatly improved as well; it will last almost two hours longer than the iPhone 7.

There's also wireless charging on the iPhone X - you don't have to plug the phone into a power socket to charge it, just drop it on top of an inductive pad

Apple will be bringing out a charging device that allows users to charge their iPhone, Apple Watch, and even AirPod headphones all at once. Apple will be introducing out its own "AirPower" charging mat that will work with current wireless charging standards.

Powering the iPhone X is the new A11 Bionic chip, a six-core chipset comprising of two high-performance cores, four power-efficient cores, and a new Apple-designed GPU.

Price-wise, the iPhone X ain't cheap. It starts at USD999 (around RM4,200) for the 64GB base model while the 256GB model will cost you USD1,149 (around RM4,800).
