Miyazaki's Final Movie 'How Do You Live' Is Set For 2023 & We're Ready To Howl With Tears
The film serves as a token of remembrance for his grandson.
Studio Ghibli has officially set the Japanese release date for its latest and 'final' project from legendary filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki for 14 July 2023
While no other details have been announced, the film is tentatively titled How Do You Live. Studio Ghibli released a sketch of a bird-like creature wearing what looks like the skin of its kin as a small teaser on Twitter.
The 81-year-old Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli, emerged from retirement yet again to make the movie (at this point we've all lost count), which will be based on his favourite childhood book by Genzaburo Yoshino of the same name.
In fact, Miyazaki has long credited the 1937 young adult fiction as his inspiration for his other acclaimed films, such as My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Ponyo, according to Polygon.
Producer Toshio Suzuki revealed that Miyzaki hopes it will serve as a token of remembrance for his grandson, and is his way of saying, "Grandpa is moving on to the next world, but he’s leaving behind this film," as revealed by Geek Tyrant.
For these reasons, it seems like fans can set their expectations high for what seems to be the finale of Miyazaki's long and storied legacy.
