Sinakagon, also known internationally as Bloodlines, has been acquired by Netflix

The supernatural thriller, which is entirely in the indigenous Dusun dialect, marks the first time a Sabahan film has secured a coveted spot on the global streaming platform.

Marking Timonthy Stephen's directorial debut, Sinakagon draws inspiration from the legend of Huminodun, a revered goddess in Kadazan-Dusun mythology who sacrifices herself to save her people from famine.

The film was produced with a modest budget of just RM200,000 and a crew of 30 people

Stephen, founder of the Tambunan-based production company Stephen Q Films, expressed his elation at the news.

"When Netflix approved our film, we were just over the moon," he told This Week in Asia. "We were so surprised that we managed to meet the high quality and technical standards, because we shot on such a small budget with gear that isn't upscale."

The film first made its theatrical release across 30 cinemas nationwide on 13 June.
