A Malaysian mum is full of praise for a barber who helped her autistic son overcome his fear of haircuts, making it possible for him to get his first haircut in eight years

For many children with autism, getting a haircut can be an overwhelming and stressful experience.

Sensory sensitivities and the fear of unfamiliar situations make it hard for them to sit still and stay calm in a barber's chair.

This was the case for Shariza's son, Aisy, who had always struggled with haircuts.

Shariza recently shared a one-minute TikTok video capturing Aisy's experience at a barbershop in Seksyen 3, Bandar Baru Bangi

The barber, referred to as Mr D, took his time, patiently engaging with Aisy and even entertaining him while cutting his hair, despite Aisy moving around the shop.

Shariza explained that Aisy, initially overwhelmed, accidentally hit and pulled Mr D's beard and even pushed him away.

Despite this, Mr D remained calm, assuring Shariza that everything was fine. He understood that Aisy was stressed because it was his first haircut, and he never lost his patience.

The video shows how Aisy eventually relaxed and allowed Mr D to finish cutting his hair.

Shariza expressed her heartfelt gratitude on social media, thanking the barber for his kindness and patience

In response to comments, Shariza shared that Mr D has an autistic sibling, which may explain his exceptional understanding and compassion.

Other mums also shared their stories of struggling to get haircuts for their autistic children. Some mentioned being turned away by barbers, while others said they had to cut their children's hair at home.
