While many are scrambling to gain permanent residence (PR) in the economically flourishing country of Singapore, a Redditor, who claims to be a citizen, has different opinions

According to the Singaporean's post on local subreddit thread, r/Malaysia, on Saturday, 18 February, he said that he didn't think Malaysia was as bad as many claim it to be.

He starts off his post by reasoning that, despite low currency value and income levels, Malaysia is a "proper sized" country with more activities to do. He also highlighted the warmth and friendliness of Malaysians and said that the country actually has its own culture.

Comparing this with Singapore, the Redditor said that the country was nothing but another "westernised" country that was "claustrophobic and small".

"Singapore just feels like a hollow city compared to Malaysia," he said.

"If living in Singapore has the same wage and cost of living as Malaysia, Singaporeans would be desperate to leave," he added.

The Singaporean later wrote a disclaimer for his post, saying that he was only professing his thoughts on both countries, which many agreed with

He said that when travellers visit Singapore, many have nothing to say about the culture there, claiming this was the harsh truth of a "materialistic" city. In comparison to Kuala Lumpur, he said that Singapore was a "cold" place to live.

"The grass isn't all that green here in Singapore. Good infrastructure and efficiency doesn't solve everything, guys," he said.

While the Redditor affirmed that his post wasn't to hate on Singapore nor to encourage others to move to Malaysia, he said that he wanted to put a stop to the concept that Singapore was an infinitely better country than Malaysia.

"It's more of looking at the countries' strengths and weaknesses, and for me, a realisation that this whole idea of 'Singapore is just better all the time' needs to stop. Which is the whole point of my post. Stop the Singapore worship! It's toxic," he said.

Like the original poster, many netizens saw the ups and downs of both Malaysia and Singapore and agreed that the latter shouldn't be glorified for various reasons

However, others still viewed Singapore as a better country to survive and thrive in, giving their own reasons as to why they thought so.

What are your thoughts? Is one country better than the other or is this a case of 'the grass is always greener on the other side'?

While many are moving to Singapore for a better life, this Singaporean said that he earned eight times more while working in Australia:

Many Malaysian white-collar workers in Singapore are beginning to open up about the overwhelming stress they face daily at work:

However, the high wages and exchange rate in Singapore remains a huge perk to Malaysians:
