Cinemas will be allowed to open for fully vaccinated individuals, but only at half capacity, beginning Thursday, 9 September

In a statement today, 7 September, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced relaxations for the creative industry for states that are in Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

Art exhibitions, galleries, museums, and live performances such as musicals and theatre will also be allowed to resume at 30% capacity

However, all visitors have to be fully vaccinated.

"This decision (to reopen the creative sector) is among the government's ongoing efforts to stimulate economic viability of artistes and the creative industry," said Ismail Sabri, adding that the artistes themselves, as well as industry workers, should also be fully vaccinated.

He added that allowing these sectors to operate will benefit over a million artistes and more than 19,000 businesses

"I would like to urge all parties involved in the opening of this sector to always adhere to the conditions and procedures that have been set to avoid any risks or legal, safety and health implications, especially in the country's efforts to move into the endemic phase by the end of October," he said.
