The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has postponed its ban on selling liquor at grocers, convenience stores, and Chinese medicine shops

The ban, announced in November last year and scheduled to come into effect today, 1 October, prohibits the sale of hard liquor in sundry shops, convenience stores, and traditional Chinese medicine shops in Kuala Lumpur but permits the sale of beer between 7am and 9pm if it is separated from other beverages.

DBKL has now said that these shops can continue to sell liquor till 31 October.

It said that the postponement of the ban's enforcement was to allow a study related to the control of liquor sales in KL to be completed

"The availability and accessibility of liquor have been the subject of complaints and protests as it can be detrimental to public order," a Bernama report quoted DBKL as saying.
