On 14 January, a Facebook group titled "Korat: A city you can build", shared a series of poignant photographs taken by Mari-Mo Photography. The images depict a dog, affectionately named Moo Daeng, sleeping in front of a 7-Eleven convenience store in Ya Mo Market.

The post's caption reads, "Moo Daeng: Hachikō of Korat, waiting for his owner who will never return," referencing the famous Japanese Akita who waited for his deceased owner at a train station for nearly a decade.

According to the group, Moo Daeng, whose name translates to "red pork", has been waiting at the same spot for its owner since November last year.

Moo Daeng's owner was a homeless man who would often sell things or collect donations in the area

The two would often spend their nights resting in front of the 7-Eleven store. According to Thai newspaper Matichon, Moo Daeng had been by his owner's side for as long as four years.

However, the man fell gravely ill and sadly died last November. Despite his owner's death, Moo Daeng continues to wait for him in front of the store, unwilling to leave the place where they last shared their time together.

The 7-Eleven store owner and staff have been taking good care of Moo Daeng, bringing it food and blankets on cold nights.

A video posted by @Milkganeha on TikTok has also gone viral, with more than 2.3 million views, showing a staff member draping a red blanket over Moo Daeng and leaving some cuddly animal plushies to keep him company.

At the time of writing, the Facebook post has garnered over 40,000 reactions and 7,300 shares, with netizens praising the store owner and staff for their kindness and compassion towards the devoted canine.

A yellow sign was placed beside Moo Daeng, further drawing attention to his story and the community’s efforts to care for him.

Many passersby have also brought it snacks, noting that the canine is docile and adored by the market vendors in the area.
