Dr Noor Hisham Says 11 People In Parliament Tested Positive For COVID-19 As Of 29 July

Among those who tested positive, eight were asymptomatic.

A total of 11 positive cases were detected in the Dewan Rakyat as of Thursday, 29 July, according to a statement released by Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today, 30 July

In the statement, he said that the Ministry of Health (MOH) was informed about two positive cases at around 12.30pm yesterday while the third session of the 14th Parliament was underway.

The first was an officer who had been in the Dewan Rakyat building from 26 to 28 July and was reported positive for COVID-19 on 29 July through an RT-PCR test.

The second case was detected during a screening in Parliament using RTK Antigen saliva self-test because he was suffering from symptoms related to cough.

Following which, some 1,183 people in the Dewan Rakyat building underwent screening and nine more positive cases were found, bringing the total cases to 11 as of last night.

In light of these cases, Dr Noor Hisham said that a health team will conduct investigations, risk assessment, contact tracing, and take preventive and control measures including disinfecting of the Parliament building.

Among those who tested positive, two experienced mild symptoms, while eight were asymptomatic

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham advised all those who will be attending the Special Parliamentary session on Monday to conduct the COVID-19 screening test first.

"Those with symptoms are advised to make an examination and not appear in Parliament. The Ministry of Health will inform from time to time the latest developments on the results of tests."
