Mohd Diya was part of a rescue team tasked to save 14 flood victims trapped in their homes in Kampung Sungai Putat yesterday, 20 October

In the 5.30pm incident, The Star reported that the firemen were overwhelmed by the rushing chest-high flood waters when Mohd Diya was believed to have lost his balance, was swept away by the strong undercurrents, and almost drowned.

According to Utusan, it took the teamwork of firefighters and residents to retrieve him back to safety within 10 minutes.

The firefighters tried to resuscitate Mohd Diya. However, he remained unconscious as they rushed him to Melaka Hospital.

The firefighter was buried at the Masjid An-Nur Cemetery in Krubong at 10am today.
